My name is Marita. I work as a general pediatrician in Texas. I started this blog because I wanted to write about the developing brain. I am also interested in the things that make our brains healthy. I am not an authority in neuroscience. I did not specialize in psychiatry or psychology and I am not a developmental specialist. I am just fascinated by child and brain development. I see babies everyday and they are just truly amazing. My husband and I just sent our son off to college and there is a hole in our hearts. I have been thinking a lot about the trial and error, and the ups and downs that is parenthood and the wonderful milestones that we went through watching our son grow up. I thought writing might help me feel better. There is an astounding amount of knowledge about the human brain that has burgeoned in the past decade. I really just want to share my thoughts and insights about some of the things that I feel strongly about in this very broad field. I write from the point of view of a general pediatrician, a mother, and a concerned global citizen. You may find something useful that may help you as a parent but that is not the main purpose of this blog.
